I feel like being an artist is important to the world or society because it makes the world a little more colorful and allows for people to see certain topics or ideas they like through art. When I was six I was really into dinosaurs and trains so I would draw small sketches of these things during class at my previous school which inspired me to continue making art up to the present day. My favorite artists because of his style is Trevor Henderson as he is the creator of alot of popular characters online. His style uses lots of real images for the background but the focus is his characters which he makes fit into the background due to his use of lighting.
When I start an art project I usually do the large portions of the art first so that if I do run out of time I will have the most important parts of it done. My favorite medium in art is markers. I like markers because they can flow similar to paint but they give me more control than a paint brush. Since I can use them like a pencil or pen it makes the art come out similar to a painting based on what brand of markers I'm using. I like horror/realistic art when I can free draw, so most of the time I either draw an existing character or I create my own with maybe some inspiration from existing characters or real life animals. My art style is something similar to Trevor Henderson or leovincible because I like at least attempting to draw realistic horror art that is grotesque but has some sort of meaning. When I was younger I couldn’t watch any horror movies because I thought they were real but at around 10 I started really enjoying them to the point where they became my favorite genre of movies/shows and games so when I started taking art more seriously I did mostly characters from my favorite horror movies. When making creative decisions in art I think about what would save time and what would be the most visually appealing, this helps me have enough time to put in all the details I want while the art still looks decent. I know an artwork is finished when everything is colored in and I feel satisfied and comfortable with it. I feel like on digital, mistakes are a lot easier to fix but on canvas with painting I'll try to cover up the mistake with white so I could go back and fix it.
The biggest challenge I have with art is doing realistic shading and lighting. This is because sometimes I don’t know how dark shadows should be depending on the lighting and how certain types of lighting show up on something standing in front of it. Two goals I have for my art in the future is to be able to make highlights and shadows more realistically on paper/canvas. This is because I went through a phase where I drew a lot of realistic animals which were mostly dogs. I could draw all the shapes right but couldn’t do the shadows or the highlights on the fur. Another goal I have is to make more realistic backgrounds and landscapes. Making realistic faces on humans, lips and noses are a bit more difficult for me to draw than eyes, ears, hair, and face shape. To make sure I continue my growth as an artist I will try to go for harder styles like extreme realism while still retaining my current themes like horror and character art. Visual art isn’t something I really want to do in the long run but if it was then it would be something I do on the side but either way i'm having fun doing it currently.
Some advice I would give to someone just starting art would be that if you struggle with drawing something to look at the shapes of what they're trying to draw and imagine it in its simplest state so you can just build detail and more complex shapes off of them.
