Something that has inspired me as an artist is my longing to create. I aspire to create exactly what I plan out to create but also with ideas that come to mind as I am creating. My art journey began when I was in my 3rd year of elementary school. I began to find a passion in sketching out eyes and also cat faces, I do not know why but I just created. I like many artists of various styles but my favorite artist has to be James Rosenquist. Rosenquist is my favorite artist because I enjoy observing his style and I like how he combines modern and pop art as one.
Some ways I manage my time with a deadline are by making my work the center of my attention, sure I would be completing other work but I'd make sure my artwork is what I am occupied with. My favorite art medium is media arts. Media Art is a multidisciplinary field that utilizes technology to create art and I find it a fascinating way to depict art like filmmaking and stuff like that. My art ideas come up from what I see, imagination and also what I can relate to. It is easier to use those topics to create an idea for my work becauseI find it more expressive when I use things I see and relate to as an art piece. I honestly do not have any concept of what my art style is but I know I use patterns and various colors in my work and some emphasis. My style of art developed when I found out the many patterns I can create with bright colors and I also find it infatuating how I can create a piece that focuses on one place of my artwork, creating things that catch a viewer's eye. Two goals I have as an artist are to engage with more of the art community and also to be able to combine the careers I'd like to pursue which are becoming a writer and an art teacher.
The biggest challenge as an artist is getting around creative blocks, even though I can stare at a canvas and pop an idea into my head and create but sometimes i’m stuck. When there is so much going on around me it does not give me the motivation to create, if I cannot hear my thoughts or even think of an idea no work will be completed and that is not virtue for me. Whenever I make a mistake I feel like it’ll be a lot more difficult to complete but also I know I can fix those mistakes and I do fix those mistakes by just thinking of the mistake as a new feature to my work and turning it into a new art piece.
An advice i’d give to a beginner artist is, if you look at something and think you cannot create it, you do not believe in your own creativity which therefore, you do not want to become an artist. I, myself, do not think that being an artist is necessarily important to society but I do know that art is very complex but also a very influential thing that has shaped society. Art has preserved history, performed a unique form of expression, promoted social change, and has shaped cultural identity.
As I grow older, I would like to study and take the profession as an art teacher but also as a writer. I would like to move professionally with art because I feel like my artwork would inspire students and encourage them to create from what is in their brains and not just what they see, I would like my students to have the mindset that they can create exactly what they “want” to create and not what they “think” they can create.
