Honestly, I just thought that drawing was fun and unique, especially as a black girl. Kehinde Wiley is my favorite visual artist. I started out in art class when my kind and nice teacher Ms. Nuru started to teach us how to draw. I look for things to draw depending on the assignment, and I look on my pinterest for references. My favorite art medium so far is painting because it’s satisfying. When my drawings are done I go to my teacher to see what she says about my work. I don’t know what my artstyle is yet. I’m a mixed bag: weirdcore, and y2k. I like to do weirdcores, or goofy ones. I actually have no idea how the artstyle was created. I’m not as good at art as I want to be. Two goals I have as an artist are to have more straight lines and to shade better. Drawing in general is a challenge for me because I’m not advanced yet. When I make mistakes I usually get overwhelmed and upset very easily. The way I make sure to grow as an artist is that I look at past drawings that are complete to see what I can improve. My advice to someone starting out is to not give up when something is hard. You’ll get it right. You’ll do it right. I think that being an artist is important to the world, because everything is art. Art is great, but it’s not for me professionally.
